Another Busy Week…

It has been another busy week. For AI in general, and for myself. On Tuesday, OpenAI had its keynote. And did they announce some stuff!

Now on to what’s important! It is time I actively look for a new job.

In an effort to keep a semblance of privacy, I am setting up a local pipeline for my resume and cover letter creation. It involves LM Studio, Open WebUI, and OpenAI gpt-oss-20b. I chose LM Studio because it allows me to read and write to files, with the help of an MCP.

Update: Since I have started writing this post, there have been some changes… One of which is that I was getting my experiments mixed up! I was using Apple On-Device OpenAI API v0.6.34 (not LM Studio), which is up from v0.6.32 where my file reading and writing MCP was installed, and broken during the update. BUT, you can upload files in the new “Folder” section in v0.6.34!

These updates and personal reporting errors reiterate that there is a LOT going on in the world of AI, and I cannot keep up with all of it! That being said, it is not my intention to know it ALL. I want to stay abreast of what is going on, and have a sense of understanding.

In regard to the job hunting aspect, I had a “discussion” with Claude, and asked if it was wise to use the local setup. The short version is, I can use the local LLM(s), but they lack the power, potential updates and relevance of what I can get through ChatGPT or Claude… Specifically with Claude, “If you choose not to allow us to use your chats and coding sessions to improve Claude, your chats will be retained in our back-end storage systems for up to 30 days.” I am not a fan of how we can’t just USE anything anymore. Personal data is a commodity, and the person whose data is being sold has very little say. But that is a different blog post…

I am going to forego the “privacy” of the application process on my computer to hopefully have some within Claude. In case someone is wondering, “Don’t you have a Linkedin, and a ZipRecruiter, etc..?”. Yes, I do. It is more the principle of not having everything you do stored, evaluated, packaged and sold. And yes, that is an over simplification, but it is not something that can be easily distilled down into a few sentences.

The main takeaway is, I need to build my portfolio, show I can do and understand things, make more blog posts, and APPLY!!! (unless I can create my own niche and generate my own income…)
