Today I uploaded a “complete” Seespan to my Github repo. It is a chrome extension for C-SPAN that checks its captions to see who is speaking. The pop-up displays latest contributions, hight dollar trades and seats they sit on.

To be clear, Seespan is not declaring that there are any illegal activities going on. Just giving information based on public records. This is not designed to be cherry picked to reach an outcome, but to inform. And it is not against a particular party. It uses the information for those in the House and Senate. There is no favoritism.

This is a work in progress, and I am not sure where it is going, nor where it will end up. It came about because we are in a world awash in information, and information about our politicians should be more transparent. Specifically information about how money flows around them.

This is designed to surface contributions, committee memberships, and trades around members of Congress. Financial disclosure and conflicts of interest are getting more scrutiny right now than they have in years — congressional stock trading bans, disclosure reform, all of it. Seespan doesn’t take a position on any of that debate; it just makes the public record easier to see while you’re watching C-SPAN.
